“See what happens when you just get up and do it” I said to my self that morning. I had been riding in a car with no heat for a year. I endured through that winter it stop working, then summer came….”no need for heat now right?” I thought to myself paying no mind to the fact that winter would soon return. Sometimes I was just being lazy but majority of the time I was afraid of how much it would cost. I went to the dealership where I got the car from and they wanted $99 just to look at it…”Nevermind” I said. I’ll just put on more clothes. After that I lived with the thought that anyplace that I take the car to get fixed would over charge me just to look at it, so I never tried. Well, winter is here again and I’ve been beating myself up about not having the money to get it fixed and being embarrassed to give anyone a ride. My aunt made a suggestion this morning “why don’t you take it to joe’s up the street.” She has made that same suggestion a number of times but I never paid it any mind because I thought it would cost a lot. But this time I said “you know what, lets try” I went there and they told me what was wrong for free and fixed it for a very reasonable price. It was that simple. I had just been overthinking the problem which lead to my procrastination. “See what happens when you just get up and do it”

Yesterday after two whole months I lost my new job….the question is where do I go from here??? I worked very hard at that job and they just let me go. There’s nothing like someone telling you ” we’re sorry but your just not good enough” I feel hurt, sad, depressed, and let down. But I can’t stop here. As much as I wanna just lay in bed and mope I gotta keep going. This may be the push towards me following my dream as an artist. Pray for me.

I love music. I love music. I love music. Must I say it again? Lol. If I were not able to make music I think I would just lose it. It’s the only way I know how to express myself. Doesn’t matter what mood I’m in, there’s a song I can create to express the feeling. When I’m on stage performing I feel amazing. How could I ignore this? I remember wanting to give up music because I felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere with it. I stopped recording and went to work everyday as a security guard. One day while at work the building I was in had a big event. There was a live band playing and people were having a great time. I found myself tapping my foot and rocking back and forth. I just couldn’t stay still. I wanted to be on that stage performing. How could I ignore this? There’s has to be a reason music keeps calling me. I understand that success doesn’t happen overnight and I’m willing to work for it. I’m going to continue to do what I love until I am no longer able.
How about you? Do you have a passion for anything? How do you express yourself? Let me know in the comments below.
Who is James Allen?
To be honest I’m still figuring it out myself. What I have come to realize is that I learn more about my self when I’m not searching. I have always wondered what my story will be, or if I will ever have a story worth telling. I’m starting to understand that nobody knows themselves until they live life and go thru trials and tribulations. I believe that going thru hard times along with being raised well has helped mold me into the person I am today and I also believe that I am no where near the peak of my true potential. I know that I love music and that there’s a reason for my gift of words and ability to move a crowd. It took years of trial and error to develop the skills I now have and I think that’s how I will find my self. By just living life, trying new things and figuring out what works for me and what doesn’t.
Have any advice or tips to finding yourself? Let me know in the comments.
I’ve been doing some blog reading lately. Not just any random blogs but choice blogs. This week I’ve been reading up on music marketing and social networking. The reason I decided to read up on these topics is because I was starting to lose followers on twitter and was seeing less likes on Facebook and I didn’t understand why. So I found a few blog post on http://diymusician.cdbaby.com/
About these topics. By reading these blogs I found out that most of the stuff I was doing was WRONG. Like don’t try to “force” people to listen to your music because you don’t have to. There’s an audience for everyone but everyone is not your audience!
I found this out the hard way. Funny story: I was on twitter sending out tweets to any and everyone who was tweeting at the time. I sent a tweet to one guy, “hey check out my new song!” His reply was “Im not a producer!” Now I’m guessing this guy was very popular on twitter because that tweet got retweeted a number of times and replies to his tweet saying something along the lines of “what the hell was wrong with that guy lol” I was embarrassed and didn’t tweet anymore that night but I got over it I think haha. Anyway moral of the story is if your serious about you craft do your homework! All of this could have been avoided with a little reading. So what do you think? Do you think rappers should read more about music and how to properly use social networks for promotion? I would love to know your thoughts on this subject.
